Ingredients
- 1 long soft roll or half a baguette
- 12 oz Steak Strips, sliced thin
- 1 lb frozen or fresh-cut chips
- 1 Onion, sliced
- 2 tbsp peri-peri sauce
- 2 tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp masala or curry powder
- 1 cup shredded Lettuce
- 2 tbsp oil
- Salt and black pepper
Method
- Cook the chips in the air fryer at 400°F (205°C) for 18–20 minutes, shaking twice, or bake them on a sheet until deeply golden and crisp at the edges. Salt them the moment they come out.
- Meanwhile fry the Onion in the oil until soft, add the masala for 30 seconds, then the Steak Strips. Cook over high heat until browned and just done — 3 minutes for steak strips, 6 for poultry to 165°F (74°C).
- Split the roll lengthwise without cutting all the way through and spread both faces with mayonnaise and peri-peri sauce.
- Layer Lettuce, then the Steak Strips with all its pan juices, then a genuinely unreasonable quantity of hot chips on top. Press the lid down hard.
- Cut across into four sections, wrap each in paper, and eat before the chips soften. That is not a suggestion; it's a countdown.
